| Tegan had a very special role in my life. I sold her to my future husband, and that, in fact, is how we met! We have since divorced, but if it weren’t for her, I would not have married and had my special son, Ian. So, in my opinion, Tegan helped build a family. My husband-to-be had lost his older Vizsla the year before and was ready for a new puppy. He was an avid hunter, and together, we spent 13 years hunting in Nebraska and Minnesota. I think one of the reasons he was drawn to me was that I actually hunted! Tegan was a superb bird dog. One of her most memorable moments was when she tracked a pheasant through the snow for a quarter of a mile; another was when she went down a cliff to get to the river and swam against the current to retrieve a pheasant! And, in our home, she was gentle and patient with my son, Ian, when he was a baby. One day as we were leaving for vacation, a pygmy rattlesnake bit Tegan. While being treated for the snake bite, our vet discovered a man’s fist-sized tumor in her abdomen. During surgery, he found a histiosarcoma tumor on her spleen and removed it. We had the privilege of having Tegan in our lives for another year and a half. She was a phenomenal dog and will always have a special place in our hearts. |
