| Even though we all love our dogs with a passion, most of us have a dog in our lives who is our “heart dog” – a dog who has a very special place in our hearts above and beyond all others. Cid is that dog for me. He came from my first litter, bred out of Katrina Our Pride II and CH Coffee’s Tijuana Red UD ROM. He was originally supposed to belong to a boyfriend of mine at the time, who decided he couldn’t handle a puppy in his apartment. So I happily kept Cid as my own. I had never had a male Vizsla before in my life! Back in the 80’s, we had to wait until our puppy was six months old before we started obedience classes. So, at six months of age, Cid and I began classes with Marley Whiting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Marley is nationally known for her training program, as well as being an Obedience judge and having the top competing Cocker Spaniels in the country at the time. Cid and I were like the “Energizer Bunny;” we just kept going and going in our obedience work and competition until we worked our way up to a Utility Dog title. I strongly believe that because we were a “team,” working and training together through the years, our bond grew especially strong. I loved Cid deeply. He was also my hunting dog during those years. Together we hunted ruffed grouse in northern Minnesota, pheasants in southern Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska, and quail, prairie chickens and Hungarian partridge in Iowa and Nebraska. Cid was 13 years old on his last hunting trip, and although his hearing was gone, I could still communicate with him with my Utility Dog hand signals. Cid passed on later that year. Always in my heart….never, ever forgotten. |
